How does the apprenticeship route work?
A certificate of completion from an apprenticeship program approved by the State of Ohio or the US Department of Labor in the plumbing trade is one of the accepted proofs of the 5-year tradesperson requirement for the state contractor exam; apprentice/journeyman workers otherwise need no state license and work under a licensed contractor's company.
