The short answer
As of July 2026, Louisiana licenses electrical CONTRACTORS statewide through the State Licensing Board for Contractors (LSLBC): any electrical project exceeding $10,000 (labor and materials) requires a commercial license with the Electrical Work classification. The state does not issue journeyman or master electrician licenses; individual electrician licensing, where required, is handled by local jurisdictions. Contractor licensure is exam-based (trade exam plus Business & Law) rather than hour-based.
Do you need a license to work as an electrician in Louisiana?

How does the apprenticeship route work?
Apprenticeship is not part of state licensure because Louisiana does not license journeyman/master electricians at the state level; registered apprenticeship (through USDOL/Louisiana registered programs) counts toward journeyman qualifications in local jurisdictions that license electricians. The state contractor license is obtained by examination, not by documented hours.
